These include 1 lakh (100,000) aquatic beings, 1 million aerial beings (creatures that fly in the sky), 1.1 million insects, 2 million trees, creepers, and shrubs, 3 million animals, and only 400,000 human beings. The human birth is considered extremely rare—even the celestial beings desire it—because only in this form can one attain liberation (moksha). Liberation is not possible in any other form.
If a person, despite attaining the human form, fails to achieve liberation, it would be the greatest mistake of their life. They would be forced to wander through the cycle of 8.4 million births and endure the sufferings of birth and death once again.
If, despite being born as a human, one does not recognize their true nature and fails to understand how to break free from the cycle of birth and death, it is their misfortune. Death is inevitable, but no one knows when it will come.
Therefore, as long as life lasts, one should not delay in performing righteous deeds.
The World: A Place of Suffering, Not Happiness
By its very nature, this world is full of suffering, and true happiness here is impossible. Anything—
whether a person, object, or situation—that appears to bring us joy is temporary. True bliss lies within us—our soul itself is blissful. The more we attain self-knowledge, the greater peace, happiness, and contentment we experience.
This entire creation operates according to a divine plan, and every event occurs by the will of the Lord. Therefore, we must seek our welfare and well-being in every situation.
Kaliyuga and the Simple Path to Liberation
Being born in Kaliyuga (the present age) is a blessing, as attaining liberation is much easier in this era than in previous ages.
In Satya Yuga, people had to meditate for thousands of years, in Treta Yuga, they had to perform thousands of yajnas (sacrificial rituals), and in Dvapara Yuga, they had to engage in centuries of worship to attain moksha.
But in Kaliyuga, one can attain liberation simply by chanting the Lord’s name, provided it is done with sincerity and devotion.
If one has complete faith in God and an intense longing to unite with Him, the Lord Himself grants His divine vision to such a devotee.
If a person renounces worldly desires—such as wealth, relationships, fame, and power—and surrenders themselves to the Lord, attaining liberation becomes effortless.
Desires: The Cause of Endless Craving and Downfall
Human desires never cease. A poor person desires wealth, a rich person craves more fortune, a millionaire wishes for power, a king desires to rule the entire earth, an emperor aspires to become divine, and even after attaining divinity, the thirst for more remains. Ultimately, a person who is consumed by desires meets a downfall, whereas one who becomes free from desires attains higher realms.
Thus, the purpose of human life is not merely to seek worldly pleasures but to move toward liberation. The true use of this life is to attain self-realization and surrender to the Lord. Among all creatures on earth, only humans have endless desires.
The sooner one understands that this world is full of suffering and that true happiness lies only in liberation, the better. One should dedicate themselves to devotion and the service of the Lord as soon as possible.
