Flowers: A Beautiful Gift of Nature
Today, I will tell you about the flowers in my home. All these flowers are grown in my garden. Truly, flowers are the most beautiful, soothing, and happiness-giving gift of nature. That’s why people use flowers to express their emotions. Many people use roses to express their love, as roses are considered the most beautiful flowers.
It is impossible to describe the beauty of flowers in words because nature has given them such stunning colors that words cannot capture. Flowers are a unique and marvelous creation of nature that we can only experience and admire. It seems as if God has adorned the Earth with flowers. No human can create as many shades with a pencil as nature has given to flowers.
Famous Quotes on Flowers
Helen Keller once defined love by comparing it to a flower—though she couldn't touch it, its fragrance filled the garden just as love fills life with joy.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The Earth laughs in flowers," meaning flowers represent the joy of our planet and serve as ornaments for the Earth.
Flowers hold such importance in human life that many cultures have incorporated them into their traditions. Around the world, people celebrate various flower festivals to appreciate their beauty.
Many flower exhibitions are organized where locals and tourists can enjoy the vibrant displays and experience cultural festivities.
How I Keep My Flowers Healthy and Vibrant
All these flowers are grown in my home garden. Today, I will share the secrets of how I keep my flowers lush and colorful. First, take a look at my flowers and comment on how you like them!
Homemade Remedies for Rapid Flower Growth
My Personal Experience:
Mustard Cake Fertilizer – A Miracle for Flowers
Mustard cake (Sarson Khali) is easily available in the market. Take about 1 kg of mustard cake and soak it in a bucket with 1 liter of water for five days. After five days, add one cup of this soaked mustard cake to each flower pot at the base of the plants. Repeat this process every 15 days, and you will be amazed at how lush and vibrant your plants become.
Disprin Tablet for Plant Growth
I use Disprin tablets to keep my potted plants fresh and enhance flower colors. Here’s how:
Soak seeds in a Disprin solution for a few hours before planting.
Compare the growth of seeds soaked in plain water versus Disprin water—you will see how much faster the Disprin-treated seeds grow.
To prevent fungal infections, dissolve one Disprin tablet in one gallon of water and use it to water the plants. This keeps them healthy and prevents wilting.
Cow Dung Fertilizer
I rely heavily on cow dung manure for my potted plants. Additionally, I sometimes use market-available chemical fertilizers such as neem cake, mustard cake, or peanut cake, which are rich in protein.
Fertilizers can be divided into two main types:
Organic Fertilizers – Easily available at nurseries, including neem cake, bone meal, mustard cake, and compost. These cost around ₹40 to ₹80 per kg.
Chemical Fertilizers – Used as per plant requirements.
Apply fertilizers once a month, adding a handful for small plants and two handfuls for larger plants. Reduce fertilizer usage during summer for better plant health.
Important Note:
Apply fertilizer only when the soil is dry.
After adding fertilizer, loosen the soil and water the plants.
Sunlight: Essential for Plant Health
Sunlight is crucial for plant growth, but protect them from harsh afternoon sun. Even indoor plants should get sunlight at least three days a week for 1.5–2 hours in the morning. During summer, keep plants in partial shade to prevent damage.
Used Tea Leaves as Fertilizer
I use leftover tea leaves from my kitchen as an excellent fertilizer. After making tea, collect the strained tea leaves and dry them before adding them to the soil. This significantly enhances flower growth and color.
Cottonseed Meal Fertilizer
For deep-colored flowers, I use cottonseed meal (Binola Khad), which is commonly used as cattle feed.
Soak the cottonseed in water to prepare the fertilizer.
Add it to the soil and water the plants immediately.
This treatment revitalizes potted flowers and enhances their vibrancy.
DAP Fertilizer for Flowers
DAP (Diammonium Phosphate) fertilizer is as essential for plants as multivitamins are for humans. Apply DAP every 15 days for healthy flowers and plants.
Important Caution:
Never apply DAP directly to plant roots.
Sprinkle it around the plant base and mix it with soil to avoid root burn.
Homemade Compost: How to Prepare Organic Fertilizer at Home
Materials Required:
Kitchen waste (vegetable peels, used tea leaves, coffee grounds, leftover food)
Garden waste (dry leaves, grass, small twigs)
Cow dung
Soil or ready compost
Water
A compost bin or a 2-feet deep pit
Steps to Make Compost:
Layer dry leaves at the bottom of the compost bin or pit.
Chop kitchen waste into small pieces and mix with dry waste in a 60:40 ratio.
Add cow dung and soil in a 50:50 ratio.
Sprinkle water to maintain moisture.
Cover the compost bin to allow decomposition.
Turn the compost every 7-10 days for proper aeration.
In 1.5 to 2 months, you will get nutrient-rich compost for your plants.
How Much Compost to Use?
For small plants: 1 to 2 handfuls every month.
For medium-sized plants: Half a handful every 4-6 months.
For larger plants: One handful every month.
How to Apply Compost?
Mix compost lightly into the soil and let it rest for one day before watering.
For garden plants, spread compost around the roots and cover with soil.
Precautions While Using Compost
Use only fully decomposed compost to avoid harming plants.
Do not over-fertilize young plants.
Avoid watering immediately after adding compost, as it may wash away nutrients.
Do not mix chemicals (like dishwashing soap or pesticides) in compost, as they introduce harmful toxins.
