An Empty Womb and an Invisible Design
Long ago, a king and queen ruled over a prosperous kingdom. Their land was flourishing, their people content—but their hearts were incomplete. The queen’s arms longed for a child. Her yearning grew deeper each day.
She would often say, “My womb is barren. If only a child would bless our lives, my wishes would be fulfilled.” The king would dismiss her sorrow for a time, but eventually, her tears melted his heart.
He instructed his minister to find a way to bring a child to the palace—but without revealing that the child came from a poor household. The minister devised a plan: it was announced that the queen was expecting. The news spread far and wide, and celebrations erupted across the kingdom.
A Poor Child and His Entry into Royalty
Around the same time, a beautiful boy was born in a poor family. The minister, offering them great wealth, brought the child to the palace. Within days, the kingdom rejoiced—"A prince is born!" The queen finally had a child in her arms, and her motherly heart found its fulfillment.
The boy grew up—brilliant, kind, and full of virtues. His praise echoed through the land. But one thing remained deeply rooted in the king’s heart—his ego. Time and again, he would think, “It is I who made him a king. Without my decision, he was nothing—just a poor man’s son.”
Transfer of Power and the Rise of Bitterness
Time passed. The aging king handed over the throne to the young man. The boy, now grown, became the new ruler. Yet, the old king could not free himself from the burden of his pride.
He would sometimes declare in court, “It is by my mercy he rules today. Otherwise, who was he?!” The queen would remind him gently, “Fate is written by the Divine, not by man. Look at his deeds and values.” But the king’s ego had blinded him.
Court's Rebuke and the Beginning of Exile
The king’s words began to offend the courtiers. They said, “You are no longer the ruler. Insulting the current king is an insult to the kingdom itself.” Matters worsened until the court exiled the old king.
With heavy hearts, the king and queen left the palace and wandered into the forest. The king kept muttering, “I made him a king, and now I am banished!” The queen reasoned, “He still loves you, but your pride wounded his self-respect again and again.”
The Blue Lotus and a Glimmer of Hope
While wandering, they reached a riverside. There, the king saw a rare and stunning blue lotus floating down the stream. He thought, “My son is a devotee of Lord Shiva. This flower would please him. Maybe he’ll allow me to return to the palace.”
He took the flower to his son. The new king smiled and said, “Because of you, my offering to Shiva will be complete. But I cannot offer this flower alone. My wife is also a devotee. Please bring another like this.”
The old king’s heart sank. He muttered angrily, “Now he commands me? I know whose son he really is!”
The Queen’s Wisdom and the Mystery of the Hermits
The queen, calm as ever, said, “If one blue lotus floated here, surely there’s a place where more bloom. Let’s find it.”They followed the river, day and night, until they reached a pond near a mountain. In its center was an island with blooming blue lotuses and three seats—two occupied by hermits, one empty.
The king and queen bowed and said, “We are former royals, wandering in sorrow. My husband offended his son and now lives in regret.”
The hermits smiled and said, “We know who you are. But you have not recognized us.”
Truth of a Past Life and the Prophecy of Liberation
They revealed, “We three were brothers—hermits. The third among us was consumed by pride, thinking, ‘I can do everything.’ He fell from a mountain and died. Reborn in a poor home, through penance he earned kingship in this life.”
“He is not king because of your care, but because of his austerity. Yet, even now, he is not complete. When he hears his inner calling, he will return here. The quest for the blue lotus will bring him to this pond. Then we will remind him of his seat, and all three brothers shall attain liberation together.”
Essence of the Story: A Lesson in Fate, Austerity, and Humility
They said, “O King! No man writes another’s destiny. The Divine alone bestows what is deserved. You were just a medium. Power, wealth, and status—these are fleeting. A true king rules with humility, not with pride.”
Message of the Tale:
Ego blinds the soul.
Austerity and actions shape true destiny.
Power is temporary; only humility endures.
Every soul is destined for liberation—not entanglement in worldly attachments.
This tale gently reminds us that what is ours will come, but only when we rise above ego and listen to our inner truth.
